The Gokyo Lake Trek is a trekking itinerary in the Everest region of Nepal that takes you to the highest freshwater lake system in the world. The trek offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas, including four of the world’s highest peaks: Everest, Cho Oyu, Makalu, and Lhotse.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer to your hotel.
Spend the day exploring the vibrant city and preparing for the trek ahead.

Day 2: Fly to Lukla, Trek to Phakding

Take a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla.
Begin trekking towards Phakding, a picturesque village along the Dudh Koshi River.

Day 3: Trek to Namche Bazaar

Continue trekking along the Dudh Koshi River to reach Namche Bazaar.
Enjoy the bustling atmosphere of this vibrant town and stunning views of the Himalayas.

Day 4: Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar

Spend an extra day in Namche Bazaar for acclimatization.
Explore the town and take short hikes to nearby viewpoints.

Day 5: Trek to Phortse Thanga

Follow a less crowded trail towards Phortse Thanga.
Experience serene landscapes and encounters with local Sherpa communities.

Day 6: Trek to Machhermo

Pass through small settlements like Dole and Luza before reaching Machhermo.
Enjoy breathtaking views of the mountains from Machhermo.

Day 7: Trek to Gokyo

Ascend through the Dudh Koshi Valley to reach the highlight of the trek, Gokyo.
Marvel at the stunning Gokyo Lakes and surrounding snow-capped peaks.

Day 8: Hike to Gokyo Ri, Trek to Dole

Early morning hike to the top of Gokyo Ri for a spectacular sunrise view.
Trek back to Dole and enjoy the scenic trail.

Day 9: Trek to Namche Bazaar

Descend from Dole to Namche Bazaar, passing through forests and Sherpa villages.
Enjoy the breathtaking views along the way.

Day 10: Trek to Lukla (Optional)

Continue your descent towards Lukla for your flight back to Kathmandu.
Alternatively, you can spend an extra day in Namche Bazaar and trek to Lukla the following day.

Day 11: Fly to Kathmandu

Take a scenic flight from Lukla back to Kathmandu.
Relax at your hotel or explore more of the city’s cultural sites and markets.
